The RIC 4004 Cheyenne was introduced in 1992 and improved in 1999 when this model, the ‘Cheyenne 2′ arrived. The 4004 is a lighter (thinner bodied) humbuckered model with 3-ply sandwich body construction that is chamfered around its entire profile for maximum comfort and to assist with weight..Headstock is maple with walnut wings and sports a black RIC trussrod cover with gold Rickenbacker logo that is matched by the gold plated hardware. Like the flagship 4003, it has 2 piece through-neck construction….the hallmark (or should that be Hall-mark!) of all RIC basses since their inception.
So tonally, whats going on? Well, no doubting it sounds like a RIC but its a thicker, fatter sound due to the shift from single coil to humbucking pickups. Neck profiles have reverted back to 4003 dimensions/feel and its equally at home being played with a pick or finger style. These are indeed rare beasts.
