The architecture of the bass, like all good art and design, divides opinion and thats exactly as it should be. These are not for players who want to ‘fit in with the crowd’ visually or sonically. They are dynamic instruments in all respects and playing is believing. We ask OW to leave a little more wood in the neck but its still a very fast and slinky affair with superb access all the way to the 24th fret.
Tonal delivery is as clear as a bell and the alder body works a treat - the first time ever that alder has been used on one of these basses. These modern Original Series basses are so much better than the ones built in the 70s and 80s. As Chris May concedes; “that’s what you’d expect with another 25 years of evolution and bass building experience in between”.
All in all, a unique and desirable instrument to play and own.
