A real player’s instrument… beautifully conceived and executed single cut, fretless 5 string from the workshop of Luthier Alan Cringean (Mr ACG). By electing to ‘keep it simple’ and not add a rarewood top and headstock veneer,we’ve managed to bring this bass in at a price that should make it obtainable to more folks wanting to get into a top-notch, pro-level fretless 5 string.
The custom ACG/East P-Retro preamp is a gem and offers a wide spectrum of tonal possibilities. The volume control (stack 1) has a push/pull ‘bright’ function and the dual boost control (turn CW for mid boost and ACW for bass & treble boost) on stack 2 offers a preset ‘deep’ boost. The 4-way rotary pickup selector offers: Bridge only/bridge and neck in parallel/bridge and neck in series/neck only. Its a very easy to use, very effective EQ setup.
The neck offers a full 3 octave playing experience (24 ‘fret’ board effectively) with superb access all the way up to top G. These single cut basses provide alot more body wood to neck wood connectivity which makes for great sustain and resonance. Fitted with SIT ‘Silencer’ strings (somewhere between flat and round wound).
