ACG Krell Custom

The Krell is one of Alans more recent body shapes and our personal favourite here at GBBL. This bass was sold, new, by us in mid-2015 to a regular customer who is prone to changing basses on a frequent basis! …nothing wrong with that. The bass went back to John East and the original P-Retro preamp was upgraded to John’s ‘Uni-4’ pre-amp which is adjustable.
We specified a ‘classy’ well coordinated palette of woods. ‘Timeless’ Alder for the body with a Makore (African Cherry) top which is similar to Bubinga in hue. The headstock has a matching Makore laminate. The necks on these basses are quite superb and if you’ve never played an assymetric neck profile with totally flat (zero radius) fingerboard, you should - it all makes total sense when you play it. Particularly good for tapping, chording and fast, articulate bass lines high up the neck.
A handbuilt, pro-quality instrument that, spec and price wise, falls between ACG’s standard range and their full-blown Uber custom basses. There are a lot of tone-shaping possiblities on offer here and, unlike the filtered preamps which take more ‘getting to know’, its possible to quickly set up a number of very useable and quite different modern active tones - or just bypass the preamp and run it passive with a quick flick of the switch.
