Sandberg Forty Eight Deluxe Gig Bag
Sandberg Forty Eight (Soft Aged)
Rock ‘n Roll… cool vibe or what?. The ‘Forty Eight’ is Sandberg’s new model and, as far as we’re aware, this is only the second 5 string version to hit the UK (we sold the first one!).
Whilst the ‘aged’ chrome pickup covers suggest that 2 humbuckers are at play here thats not the case. The neck pickup is infact a split-coil ‘P’ style pickup which adds a little more versatility and tonal choice. As usual, Sandberg give you the option to by-pass the preamp and run the bass in passive mode.
We’ve upped the specification by specifying a body-matched headstock and pearl block inlays to the fingerboard. The bass is ‘softcore’ aged which Sandberg says ‘is slightly worn like its been used on stage for around 10 years’. The hardware has an aged nickel finish as opposed to a bright chrome finish and all pickups for the 48 are made by Sandberg in their own workshop.
Balance on the strap is neutral with no neck-dive (unlike a Gibson Thunderbird/Explorer bass) and the first fret does not feel to be ‘miles away’ like it does on those particular basses. So, if you’ve always liked the visual appeal of a Thunderbird but can’t live with the impracticalities then the 48 maybe the answer. It’s a far more refined, modern package all round and its delivers some very ballsy sounds!
